Ved de lavvandede, danske kyster er bundgarnsfiskeri særligt meget anvendt. Garnet bliver sat vinkelret op i forhold til kysten ved hjælp af bundgarnspæle, som holder det på plads.
Garnet består af en ”indsvømningstunnel”, der leder fiskene hen til hovedgarnet og gør dem ude af stand til at svømme tilbage.
Garnfiskeriet har i de senere år været i tilbagegang på grund af forøgelsen af algebestanden og nedsættelse af iltindholdet i vandet de steder, hvor det for fiskerne er praktisk at bruge bundgarn til at fiske med.
